If you’re at all concerned about civil rights, now might be the time to get involved. Join the thousands of Americans that volunteer their time and money to international, national, state or local non-profits. As an introvert, volunteering can be an intimidating and stressful prospect. You need to go to a public place, talk to strangers, and potentially navigate new tasks. It’s bad enough prospects for many introverts without a long work week filled with conversations with co-workers, managers, and customers. Linear functions are the functions having independent variable x never having power greater than 1. Linear function can be written in slope intercept form:f(x) = m x + b where x and y are the co-ordinates on the graph, m is the slope of the line and b is the y- intercept. Slope shows how steep the line is. Let us see some examples based on linear functions. Example 1:- Form linear function for the graph. Solution 1:-The linear function in the form f(x) = m x + b From the graph it is clearly seen that y- intercept =2 so b= 2. The slope of a line can be find by taking any 2 points on the line. Slope of line (m) = change in y axis / change in x axis. From the graph slope of a line = 0.5 Therefore the linear function f(x) = 0.5 x + 2 or y = 0.5 x + 2. Example 2:-Draw graph of linear function f(x) = y = 2x + 7 Solution2:-Assume values for x and use the function f(x) = 2 x + 7 to find values of y When x = 1 then the value of y = 2(1) + 7 = 9 When x = -2 then the value of y = 2(-2) + 7 = 3 When x = -1 then the value of y = 2(-1) + 7 = 5 Now plot x and corresponding y values in the graph Draw a straight line that passes through the points. How is the STAAR Scored What is the STAAR? The STAAR is the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness. The STAAR replaced the TAKS in 2012. This exam tests students at multiple stages of their education in mathematics and reading (grades 3-8), writing (grades 4 and 7), science (grades 5 and 8), and social studies (grade 8). There is also an 'end of course' test (similar to the Regents Exams in New York) at the conclusion of Algebra I, Biology, English I and II, and U.S. History. These assessments compare student growth across the state with the desired and expected learning outcomes. They are now required for graduation. Here are some essentials for the new STAAR teststhat you may want to take look at. How is the STAAR scored? All scores fall within three categories: advanced, satisfactory, and unsatisfactory academic performance. Individuals must earn a satisfactory or advanced mark on end of course (EOC) exams in order to graduate from high school with a diploma. Students with special education or English language needs may receive modified assessments. Each tests rubric is available via thestate website. Raw Score versus Scaled Score Each STAAR report includes a raw and scaled score. The raw result consists of the number of questions that a student answers correctly, with one point awarded for each problem. The scaled score takes into account the difficulty of the test version. Note that the scaled score fluctuates with the levels of academic performance each year. 2012-2014 is within the first testing phase, and thus, the scale has slightly lower thresholds for satisfactory academic performance. Advanced academic performance remains consistent. The score report also includes an analysis of an individuals strengths and weaknesses within the test. Preparing for the STAAR Many strong students struggle with standardized testing, but they cannot graduate with unsatisfactory STAAR scores on their EOC exams. Though the state releases some test content, preparing for a strictly timed and high stakes exam involves more effort.
